Beppu Rakutenchi is an amusement park on a hillside above Beppu City that opened in 1929 (Showa 4), now operated by Rakutenchi Co., Ltd. The cable car that began service alongside the park's opening runs 260 meters at a 30-degree gradient, said to be one of the steepest in Japan, with the park's double-deck Ferris wheel visible from its windows. Admission through the Main Gate, which includes a round-trip cable car ticket, is 1,300 yen for adults (junior high age and up) and 600 yen for children (ages 3 through elementary school); the Otobaru Gate, reached directly by car, is 1,100 and 500 yen, with free entry for age 2 and under. Parking is 300 yen for standard cars and 600 yen for large vehicles, with motorcycles free.
