Lina World opened on June 15, 1969 as "Sankou Land" and was renamed to its current name in 1990; it is operated by the Sankou Group and bills itself as one of the largest amusement parks in the Tohoku region. It has a Sanrio character zone, "Hello Kitty & Friends Fairyland," featuring what is said to be Japan's first Hello Kitty-themed Ferris wheel. A 3D maze relocated from the closed Toshimaen park in Tokyo reopened here in 2021. The park closes for winter from late November to mid-March, is closed on Tuesdays, and draws around 150,000-160,000 visitors a year.
