Akita Furusato Village is a theme park that opened on April 20, 1994, on a site of about 165,000 square meters, nicknamed "Kamakurando" and operated by Akita Furusato Village Co., Ltd. as designated manager. It includes the Akita Museum of Modern Art and the 23-meter-dome, 271-seat planetarium "Spacea," said to be the largest in the Tohoku region, plus "Wonder Castle," which combines trick art with indoor athletic equipment; all the facilities are linked by covered corridors so visitors can move between them even in the rain. Entry to the village itself is free; Wonder Castle and Spacea each cost 700 yen for high school age and up and 500 yen for elementary/junior high schoolers, with a combined three-facility ticket at 1,700 yen. The in-park "Max Train," powered by solar panels, runs from April to mid-November and costs 500 yen for high school age and up.
