Tajima in three days — park the van, walk 200 m to the gondola

3 days, 2 nights ・ ≈433 km ・ 9h 26m driving (estimated)

The best three days in Kansai: four Tajima resorts — Up Kannabe, Hachi Kogen, Sky Valley and Ojiro — with both nights at RV parks that stay open all year. Day three is the reason to come. RV Park Sora-no-Mori Hana-Gori states it plainly: in winter it is a 200 m walk from the park to the Ojiro gondola, and you can leave the van where it stands. Parking once and walking to the lift is rare anywhere in Japan. Sky Valley, meanwhile, is the only one of the 27 resorts we checked whose official price list has a campervan rate of its own (¥1,500 on weekdays, ¥2,000 at weekends). ⚠ Sora-no-Mori comes with three hard conditions: only five pitches in deep snow, so book early; the operator states that chains are needed in winter; and between 18:00 and 09:00 vehicles cannot be moved because of snow clearing and ice work — so check in during daylight and plan to stay put. ⚠ Hachikita's official chain-fitting point is the Hachikita roadside station, and Hachi Kogen tells drivers to fit chains near the same spot. Driving times are OSRM × 1.2 campervan estimates on snow-free roads, not measured runs.

Indicative cost

🚐 Rental (JP STAR Treasure 1 ・ 3 days ・ weekday rate)約 ¥60,000
⛽ Fuel (9 km/L ・ petrol ¥161/L)約 ¥7,746
🛣 Tolls ・ ⛴ Ferry ・ 🌙 Overnight

Tolls and ferry fares have to be worked out leg by leg from the actual route, and overnight cost depends which stops you choose — all three are calculated live on the map once you pick a vehicle and a departure date. The two figures above assume this vehicle at the weekday rate.
